Going Against the Financial Climate - Rouse’s Thailand Practice Expands

Going against the current financial downturn, Rouse Thailand has breathed fresh air into the IP legal industry by expanding the size of its IP team.  In the past six months, Rouse’s Bangkok office has witnessed two significant additions to its trade mark and patent litigation teams.

Lisa Yong (executive and country manager of Rouse’s Philippines office) is leading the trade mark team in Rouse Bangkok, raising the firm’s regional profile by developing new work for Asia.  Lisa was at Rouse’s Jakarta office for five years from 2000 to 2005, where she coordinated the first end-user software anti-piracy raid. She is now based in Bangkok where she is working closely with the local talent to grow the trade mark practice.

To further strengthen its practice, Rouse made a senior manager new hire in November 2009.  Manoon Changchumni joined the firm from Baker & McKenzie’s Bangkok office, to lead Rouse Thailand’s litigation practice.  Manoon is a keen author of legal articles, and has had 20 years experience in a wide range of IP matters. He has led landmark litigation cases in Thailand, including, including Mandarin Oriental Services B.V. v. Mandarin Hotel Co., Ltd., Fraser & Neave v. Department of Intellectual Property, and S Tous S.L. v. Pornchai Kanokvaleewong (Thai citizen), to name just a few.

Fabrice Mattei, Rouse Thailand Country Manager, comments on the expansion: "Having Lisa to lead and speed roll our trade mark group in Bangkok has further enhanced our market-leading practice.  Our ability to add a senior member such as Manoon to our litigation team is strong evidence of our reputation within the industry. We anticipate that these additions to the team at management level will bring still further innovation as we focus on the quality of the service we are offering our clients."
